Frequently Asked Questions

I am currently taking regular dance classes, but I’d love to try Pom. Can I do both?

Absolutely! We believe students benefit from working with a variety of teachers, choreographers, and dance professionals. We encourage you to check for scheduling conflicts, and to discuss any potential issues well in advance.

I am a member of my school Pom team, can I join the Eclipse team too?

Yes you can! The rules set out by the governing body (SCA) permits athletes to compete on both the Scholastic side (school) and the All-Star side (Eclipse.) The two teams will never compete against each other as they are in two separate divisions.

Where will we compete?

Jazz and Hip Hop groups, as well as solos, duos, and trios will compete at dance festivals and competitions within Saskatchewan. Pom teams will compete at SCA sanctioned events across Saskatchewan, and potentially western Canada. Dates and locations will be sent out as soon as they are finalized by the organizers.

What is the SCA?

The Saskatchewan Cheerleading Association (SCA) is the governing body for Dance Teams and Cheerleading in our province. They operate in conjunction with SaskSport to provide training and competition opportunities for their members.

Why do I need to purchase an SCA membership?

All athletes who compete at SCA sanctioned events are required to have a membership. The price ($10/yr) per athlete is extremely affordable and includes additional insurance coverage for members. The fee will be collected by Eclipse at the time of registration, and sent to the SCA on your behalf. Additional information on the SCA and it’s member insurance policy is available at www.sca.ca.

I have always wanted to do a solo, can I sign up through Eclipse?

Competition numbers for solos, duos, and trios are only open to students who are enrolled in at least one class at Eclipse. However, all Eclipse dancers have this option, and there is a limited number of rehearsal/choreography times available, so be sure to sign up early.

I have a solo, but am looking for additional practice/rehearsal time, can I work with Miss Jen?

Absolutely. Private lessons and clean & polish sessions are available and Miss Jen will work with you to provide a fresh set of eyes on your number and feedback for areas of improvement. Our studio also offers video recording and playback which is a valuable tool to all performers. (Note: this is not a choreography class, but a cleaning session only. Choreography will not be changed, and credit and competition enrolment must take place through the studio providing the routine. Email jennifer@eclipsedance.ca for pricing and studio availability.)

Can we watch classes?

At Eclipse Dance and Performance Training, we have an open door policy for students. We believe dancers should get the opportunity to practice in front of an audience, and they can also learn a lot from observing classes in progress. All Eclipse dancers are permitted to watch classes in progress, provided they follow studio rules while doing so. Students not following the rules will be asked to leave and wait in the lounge.

Parents, family, and friends will have the opportunity to watch classes during our Parent Watching week which will be scheduled in the late fall/early winter.

Is there child care for siblings?

Our instructors are busy with students in class, so dancers and siblings in the lounge need to be under the supervision of a parent or guardian.
